If you're planning a wedding and working on your wedding budget, you've most likely realized that weddings are EXPENSIVE. After booking the venue, the florist, the caterer and more, you may start wondering, are wedding invitations really THAT important?
Short answer: YES!
To save money, you might consider sending out some pretty e-vites for free or ordering some cheap printable invitations off of Etsy and trying to print them at home, but I'm gonna lay it all out for you on why that is a BAD IDEA and why the heck professionally designed/printed, beautiful wedding invitations are actually reeeeally important.
YOUR WEDDING INVITATIONS BECOME KEEPSAKES FOR BOTH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
You may hear the rumor that wedding invitations just get thrown away, but in reality, your close friends and family will most likely keep them and cherish them for a long time. I have family that have kept their wedding albums in pristine condition, and love getting them out at family gatherings from time to time. I've also worked with couples who keep their friend's and family's wedding invitations in a safe space because they were so beautiful and they just couldn't put them in the trash.
Your wedding day is an especially important day to your parents and grandparents, and they will likely cherish your wedding invitations for years to come. You don't throw away family photos, do you? No way! You more than likely keep them in a safe space, and as the years go by, you cherish them even more. A wedding invitation has similar value, and you would be surprised at how many people will value your wedding invitation and keep it in their own safe space to look back on from time to time.
YOUR FAMILY HISTORY IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR INVITATIONS
Your invitations can carry a piece of your family history in many ways. Just by listing your parents names, including a custom illustration of the wedding venue or church, or maybe a watercolor illustration of your family pet, you are including a piece of your family history. The choices you make for your wedding invitations, whether you go bright and colorful, dark and moody, or soft and delicate, emulate the preferences that your family raised you with. Like I mentioned above, you don't throw away family photos; you cherish them! The same goes for your wedding invitations.
THEY ARE THE FIRST GLIMPSE OF YOUR WEDDING THAT YOUR GUESTS WILL BE DELIGHTED TO FIND IN THEIR MAILBOX
It's slim pickin's out there for "good" snail mail these days. More often than not, mailboxes are full of junk mail and bills. After pulling that pile of junk out of your mailbox, take a second and think about how ecstatic you would be to find a gorgeously addressed envelope with a beautiful invitation inside, personalized just for you... wouldn't you be thrilled? That's how your guests will feel, and they will be even more excited for the big day to come.
YOUR WEDDING INVITATIONS REFLECT YOU AND YOUR FIANCE AS A COUPLE
This is a big one, and you reeeally don't want to go the cheapest route here, because it would reflect... well, not so great on you and your fiance. I'll just say it - e-vites are tacky, and printable wedding invitations rarely work out well for brides trying to DIY or go the cheapest route. Your best bet is to work with a professional wedding stationery designer that can get to know you and your fiance on a personal level, and craft a design that is unique to the both of you. They have experience in creating a cohesive design, choosing colors/styles, and they have an extensive knowledge of the different printing methods (so you don't have to worry about nasty at-home printer screw-ups), as well as taking care of the assembly! Working with someone who knows what their doing and really cares about your wedding invitations has soooo many benefits, and they can help create those beautiful keepsake invitations we were talking about that you'll want to cherish forever :)
If you can't tell, I'm pretty passionate about wedding invitations, and I want you to be absolutely in love with yours. I would be THRILLED to work with you to create something completely custom that is a true reflection of you and your fiance’.
Please feel free to reach out here! I’d love to chat all the details with you :)
